Mobility Program leaves me Angry

Me watching TV

I have been a student at Laguna College of Art and Design for the better part of the past three years. I have never tried to change my major, fight my schedule, transfer, or leave. Imagine my dismay when after three years of peaceful compliance and struggle to maintain a solid GPA at an art school (UNHEARD OF!) I try to apply for the mobility program and the bastards tell me I’m not eligible.

I am no prize of the art world. I like ugly, I love sick. My teachers accept my stupid pieces with patience and disappointment, but accept it they must, because I follow the requirements and art is “personal”. I am good at destroying assignments with bad taste and lewd design, and receiving agreeably undeserved A’s. But, like parents, teachers are required to love you, and professionals are not. “Those who can, do. Those who can’t teach”. After three years of dicking around, I have not a single piece of work deemed worthy of portfolio. I assume that my lack of eligibility for the mobility program has something to do with this fact.

Actually, the college tells me that though I’m technically already at a senior level… Credit wise, I am considered a SOPHOMORE. My brain can’t compute this. I was not taking a massive workload and busting my ass for three years for FUN. (Note: Everyone thinks art school is easy, but I have yet to meet anyone other than a medicine-oriented student who puts in 20 out of 24 hours of each day towards their major.)

They tell me that Animation majors have no electives. That means, all the figure drawing, all the illustration, all the graphic novel classics, all the sculpture, all the fun stuff– doesn’t mean anything. I have taken over 400+ hours of classes that do not count, and now I have the same amount of classes to make up in the next year if I want to graduate on time.

And I found this all out merely because I wanted to live with my long-distance boyfriend for a semester. Is there no God??
